Adam Schiff (closing in Senate impeachment trial of Donald .J. Trump / Feb 3, 2020)

Rep. Adam Schiff giving a passionate last appeal.

Yes, Adam Schiff is known as a brilliant orator. After all, he was a successful prosecutor and knows how to place words well. But, his speech today, in front of the U.S.Senate, it really was something else!

In years to come, students will read about it in history books, will study the video of it in every detail, and those that appreciate brilliant oration will savour every single word.

This speech is not only one for posterity because of its brilliant delivery. It is, moreover, a testament of what it takes to make a speech immortal. Schiff spoke with so much heartfelt passion and integrity, each of his carefully chosen arguments conjuring up images and feelings hard to ignore. One would have to be made of stone, not to have been moved by them.

The more tragic it is to know with almost 100% certainty that his emphatic appeal will have fallen on deaf ears; most Republican senators will still vote to acquit a criminal president who abused his powers in the most shameful and dangerous way.

But, this is what utter corruption of politicians looks like, whose opportunism wins every time... over love of country, over honouring their oath, over morals and ethics, over common decency!
