His photographs have been featured alone on the cover of Newsweek 43 times as well as being published regularly in the world’s most prestigious publications.
His work as a photojournalist took him to over 90 countries. His photographic lense witnessed most major international, geo-political issues of historic significance of the last thirty years.
Turnley's photographs never leave the viewer indifferent, often showing the plight of those who suffer great hardships or injustice. His infallible eye capturing that ONE moment that tells a complete story in just one photo is legendary.
However, his craftsmanship and unique intuition does not only apply to capturing images of war and conflict, for which he has become renowned. His masterful craft allows him just as well to capture the softer aspects of life, those of true beauty and poetry.
The photographer presently lives in both, New York and Paris. He has previously published six books of his work: French Kiss – A Love Letter to Paris, Beijing Spring, Moments of Revolution, In Times of War and Peace, Parisians, and McClellan Street.
Peter Turnley also teaches photography workshops on street photography and the photo-essay in Paris, Cuba, New York, Mumbai, Venice, Sicily, and Lisbon.
